Session 6: Rain

Image from the handout for Session 6

Announcement

Before I go into the session handout. Last night was the official final session for the game, so the good news is I have enough material to write for this blog for a while, but the bad news is that there's a definite end to the game.

I'm not going to lie I had already started thinking of a future game in the same city, I mean honestly I personally am interested to see where NPC's and PC's alike ended up after a lengthy time skip, one of the last things I did was to ask all the players "Tell me what happens in the next five years" and to jot it down in a note pad file, I did the same for where, at that moment, I saw the various NPC's who were still alive end up.

I'm not going to spoil and thing about the game right now of course, but I kinda wanted to toss the information out of there that, like the game, there is an end point that we'll hit here.

Today it rained on the city, a cleansing rain that seemed to of been sent to wash away all the destruction and death this city has seen in the last month.

Alison watched the rain from her home office window, her husband still sleeping, they had celebrated there reunion in the way that most married couples tend to, but there was still an air of mistrust between then, she figured that what happened between the FH agent and her husband was best left unspoken, but she could tell he had questions he wanted to ask, maybe today would be a good time to sit down and ask them,.

Elsewhere in the city Haylee Bush was finally let out of the hospital, and old friend of Alvin's, she was actually injured in the collapse of the Baxter building, she has not told him yet, she's one of the few people that knew about Alvin's gifts, as she would be known to call them, she really should call him, just to let him know she's okay...

With great difficulty she pushes her wheelchair to a waiting car to ride home.

***
Max was back in the saddle man, he was just finishing up an operation, nothing major just a small armored car heist for his Xenos Cell, someone has to do the dirty work after all, he wouldn't ask Maya or Sam to do this, after all they just put themselves at risk saving him.
He parked the armor car, took the money out to a waiting van, then burned out the armor car.

***

High atop the city, a man cloaked in shadows is keeping casual eye on Jordan, he had saved him several months ago from a burning gas station, but he had been watching him for longer.

And all the while, the rain still falls.

This is where I talk about stuff right?

This session was as much an experiment as anything else, I for the first time with this group, threw the players into the sandbox and told them to honestly have at it, I have a few "Events" planed, in particular, introducing a couple NPC's, giving John the opportunity to ask linger questions of Alison, and then blow up a player character.

The most important aspect, that would carry over to other sessions like this where there was not direct danger, was turning off encroachment, honestly this was meant to be a typical day for the players, where the fate of the city was not in immediate danger.

Honestly, this session came about in two ways, the players asking for it, and me cribbing some GM advise from the /tg/ Created game "Adeptus Evangelion" which actually requires downtime sessions to keep the game from falling apart.

Not that DX falls apart if we don't have these kind of sessions, but going full tilt action will wear down players and Gm's alike, so it's nice to kick back and just role play it out once in a while.

New NPC's Introduced this session

Haylee was a character I had honestly planed on bringing in allot sooner, but I didn't have a solid plan for the character. Originally she was there to be a confidant for Alvin, but she breaks out of the role pretty quickly in later appearances,  Honestly it was a last minute decision to have her become wheelchair bound, and it kinda comes up as an actual issue several sessions later.

"Stranger" as he would eventually come to be known as, was the "savior" or Jordan's back-story, and for a lack of better idea's, more or less became batman with a shotgun and knife fetish.

This particular NPC didn't get much screen time, as other NPC's took the spotlight as time went on, he broke out in the last couple Scenarios and kinda ended up having a pretty major revelation about him come out.

Iron Monger was more or less the bad guy set up durring the session to be the main threat of the next session, a False hearts Merc who was around mostly to take out the party, he didn't seem to afaird to use underhanded tactics...

The post session write up

The session opens with the Handout then we jump into the scene with Alison and John, also present was Jordan and Alvin and Sam

We learned that Max was incarcerated for stealing form a military weapons deal.

Then John asked about City N. At first Alison was hesitant to talk about the subject without knowing how John knew about it. But she relented and eventually revealed, that City N, was a district of Tokyo that had a major outbreak, and that outbreak forced the UGN to destroy the district

The scale of the screw up on the UGN's behalf became apparent, but the team decided to work together to stop them

Alvin's pet armor, "Steve" also came up in conversation before Alison stepped out of the room and Alvin got a text from Haylee Bush, a friend of his. This opened up a conversation between Sam and Alvin about Alvin's love life.

Sam Argued that maybe it was time for Alvin to move on with his life, probably hinting at a mutual friend of theirs, while Alvin dismissed the whole thing citing past trauma with Lisa. Alvin removed himself from the conversation shortly afterwards.

It became apparent, Alison held something back, but didn't say it in front of the team.

Alison also casually mentioned that the UGN intentionally put all the Overed potentials in one class together for monitoring

After Everyone left, John finds Alison upset in the bedroom. She reveals to her husband, that she was the one who made the call that ended City N, there scene fades to dark as John tries to comfort his wife.

Meanwhile Sam and Jordan walk home together in a way that would make the casual viewer mistake for a romantic walk in the rain. and Sam let slip she was on her period. Maya showed up shortly afterwards and due to the rain Jordan ended up seeing a bit more of Sam's figure than he planed for. They make a detour to Jordan's place for some casual flirting, Jordan happened to at one point spot someone outside the window. But paid it no mind.

Haylee and Alvin met up, Alvin learned that Haylee was in a wheel chair due to injuries related to the Baxter building destruction from episode 2. Alvin got a chance to vent allot of the pent up shit he's been building up for the last month. Haylee made it clear she does not blame Alvin for the Baxter building which led to her injuries. There conversation lead to to Haylee getting in a longer than either had probably anticipated conversation about Alvins love life.

Meanwhile Jordan noticed a strange man hanging outside his place looking in, and left a note for him to meet him at the place where his life changed, after some planing the trio all decided to go to the burnt out gas station. Where the Mysterious man revealed himself, they talked briefly, but cryptically about the man showing pride at the heroics that Jordan was demonstrating, and changed him to be more than he is.

At this point, everyone has had a chance to purge there demons and live a normal life at least for a day. John was taking some time to do some info gathering to see what he could come up with. He learned that the FH hired a killer called Iron Monger to take them out!

Which was too late for Alvin however, as we learned why Sarah was missing for several days when the Iron Monger revealed himself to Alvin with Sarah in Tow, he threw Sarah at Alvin while also tossing a grenade, Alvin using his own body, shielded her from the blast, but did he manage to save her?

We won't know till next week.

The Session's Impact

Besides giving the players the chance to really get some relaxing role play in, something we would do a few times, we introduced Haylee, who would, like others before her, become a major player in the story, This session set up the rather unexpected twist next session, but I'll leave that for next session.
