Session 7: Trauma

Handout image depicting Alvin on the operating table

Before we start

Before we get going here, a bit of an announcement, I know it's been a pretty painfull amount of time since I wrote up session 6, recently I was diagnosed with Depression. I'm doing better now, and I'm in a better place to pick up the blog once again.

Session handout

30 minutes after the end of the last scenario

A pair of double doors slam open as Alvin is being rolled into a surgical unit at the local Emergency room

"Son of a bitch how is this kid still alive!"

"We have about 34 individual shrapnel wounds, multiple organ punctures, heart stooped once already we need to get him stable"

"Heart rates dropping, pump some adrenaline into him!"

Alvin's coat is torn off exposing his bare bleeding back

"Uh... are these wounds closing?"

"What the shit?"

"We need to get the shrapnel out now, scalpel!"

The Surgeon never got a chance to start, a second ER team steeped in "Okay we are taking over from here, nurse escort them out"

"Just wait a god da-" The two doctors slump over as warding overtakes them from the UGN crash team that steeped in to drag the hospital staff out.

"Okay what do we got" one of the new doctors stated

"He took a grenade full force, the girl is unharmed but shocked"

The UGN surgeon got to work right away "Shit I think the shrapnel is moving towards his heart!" He said pulling a vibrating chunk of metal from his lung.

"Fuck me, it's a FH vibro Grenade!" Said a UGN nurse

"Okay keep calm, nurse what does the girl outside know?" The doctor calmly was taking vibrating chunks of metal out of Alvin as quickly as he could, not taking much care to to further aggravate wounds as he knew Alvin's overed body would be able to take it.

"More than we would have wanted, she might be our best clue to finding the attacker" the nurse stated handing the doctor tools.

As the doctor got the last vibrating piece out "Okay last one, this one almost made it to his heart, that would of been bad.... Okay don't mind wipe her then, Call Alison back and let her know the boy will probably live"

Without a word, the doctors had the hospital staff take over and they made a discreat exit

As they doctors step out, the scene goes dark flashing the title card "Double Cross: Trauma

About the session in general

This session was pretty major from a story telling prospective, in this session we started with one player on the edge of death, by the end of the session half the city’s Docks and Warehouses would be on fire, and a massive Gjaum Kaiju would be laying dead at the parties feet.

That's not what this session what really made me enjoy this session, this is the session where Alvin and Sarah got together romantically.  with more than a little Prodding from Sam, the whole scene was contrasted by Alison's all business attitude that kinda came to reflect her character as a whole, honestly, it was a nice scene.

I'm not personally thrilled with how the combat ended however, I felt as a boss the Iron monger, while awesome, didn't have any real challenge at the time they fought him, due to some poor design choices, as a multistage boss, he kinda failed, but it was an entertaining failure.

Overall, I'm pleased with the results, because I'm a romantic at heart to a probably annoying degree, what can I say if was my first campaign in a long time with a group of players who didn't act, frankly bland, and I got to unleash my inner storyteller.

This session didn't add any new faces to the cast, rather it expanded on some of the characters in the cast.

Iron Monger in his final form, also the session write up image.

So the story opens up in the hospital, with the heroes plus sarah in Alvins room post handout

The conversation was getting tense, Sarah wanted ot know why Iron Monger tried to kill him, then alvin told her the truth

She handled it rather well, the party did there best to explain to her what was happening. Things got kinda of interesting when Sarah started to ask what kept Alvin from going full Gjaum, Starman droped hints that she was the Lois that kept Alvin going.

After that everyone but her and alvin was kicked out, Starman and Jordan went off for coffee, Alvin and Sarah talked alone where Sarah slipped and confessed she had a thing for him, Alvin hesitantly reciprocated. then Sarah kissed him.

In the hospital cafe Jordan and Starman enjoyed coffe together, Maya came up in conversation.

Alsion came back and her and john started having a heart to heart talk.
Later on Alvin is released from this hospital.

Later John went to a bar to talk to his informant to learn more about iron monger, the friend revealed that the Monger had shipped in some hardware into the city, but didn't know where.

After wars his friend blew up, and he had to take out some FH goons with his robot mounted minigun.

After this Alison called Jordan and Starman to link up with her husband but could not reach Alvin.

The three of them link up and john proceeded to contact his informant, after getting the info they need, they drive to a warehouse where they were told the Iron monger was.

They find the sight of dozens of people dying under the influance of Iron mongers warding effects

Then the battle aganst the monget started, starting off with 3 Gjaum dogs. the trio of Jordan starman, and Wright took them out.

Alvin arived after the fight, having missed the fight with the dogs (lucky him)
After that they fought the Iron monger in a mech suit.

Once they destroyed the mech suit, he exploded out of it in the form of a 30 meter tall lizzard cyborg, Maya Arrives at this point to help battle the beast!!
After a long brutal battle, that destoryed much of the warehouse and docks district, the beast fell, but the media was all over it like stink on shit, cell networks crashed and it would seem to be imposible to cover up.

For the heroes though, it was a celibration to be had, they all piled at alvins, Sarah cooked, everyone cleaned up. and they all enjoyed a meal together
Meanwhile at the remains of the baxter building, signs of a diffrent kind of life emerge.

The Sessions Impact

This session honestly was, except for it starting the romance subplot between Alvin and Sarah, pretty forgettable, this session was utterly overshadowed by the next three sessions, which had in my opinion a heavier emotional impact, and honestly brought allot of new faces to the campaign as a whole, including two of me personal favorite NPC's...

As an announcement unless I'm directly asked, I'm not going to post a session transcript, it does take allot of work to compile and edit them as they tend to span in some of the busier sections up to a hundred pages per-edited. and I don't really have the time for it.

  1. Hi.

I've read every post and transcript you've done, and I'm really impressed. You seems to be a great GM, gifted with greats players.

I hope you find the time to make the transcripts of this sessions and the next ones (if not, and if you are willing to show them, I'm also interested in the unedited versions), they are good examples of how the game works, and it helped me understand it as I read the rulebook at the same time.

    Thanks, anyway.
